1971
Tupac Amaru Shakur was born in New York City to Afeni Shakur, a member and founder of the Black Panther Party. Ms. Shakur was pregnant with him while in jail on bombing charges as a member of the Panther Party.
Tupac Amaru was an Incan Warrior of the Incas. The name in Inca has a special meaning "shining serpent" and Shakur is Arabic meaning "thankful to God."
1986
Shakur's family moves to Baltimore. Tupac enrolls in the Baltimore School for the Arts. It was there that Tupac writes his first rap under the name MC New York and performs in his first play as the main charachter "Travis" in A Raisin Under the Sun.
1988
June: Tupac's family moves to the West Coast and settles in Marin City, CA. Tupac would soon move in with a neighbor due to conflicts with his mother and start selling drugs.
August: Tupac's stepfather, Mutulu Shakur, is sentenced to 60 years in prison for his involvement in a 1981 armored-car robbery.
1990
After years of tagging along and craving the opportunity to grab the mic, Tupac joins Digital Underground as a roadie/dancer/rapper.
1991
Shakur came into his own with his 1st album "2Pacalypse Now," which contained the successful singles "Trapped", "Brenda's Got A Baby." and "If My Homies Call"
While a member of the Grammy-nominated group Digital Underground Tupac appeared on the track "Same Song" from the album titled "This is an EP Release" and also on the album "Sons Of The P."
1992
Shakur appeared in the Earnest Dickerson film "Juice." This is 2pac's first big step into Hollywood as an actor, co-starring along with Omar Epps.
Release of "Strictly 4 My N.IG.G.A.Z..." which had the hit singles "I get Around", "Keep ya Head Up", and responded to Vice President Dan Quayle's comments towards Shakur about his Violent lyrics.
1993
Appeared in John Singleton's release"Poetic Justice" with Janet Jackson, Joe Torre, and Regina King.
1994
Appeared in "Above The Rim".
November: Shakur's New York sex assault trial begins.
November: Shakur is shot 5 times during a robbery attempt while going to record at a New York Recording studio late at night. Tupac claims that the robbery was a setup and feels it was arranged by Brooklyn rapper, Notorious B.I.G and other "backstabbing" friends. This was the begining of the East Coast/West Coast war which would later reveal the identities of the shooters, "Hatian Jack", and Jimmy Henchmen. Tupac can be heard on the Makaveli album reciting his side of the incident while including the names of his assailants.
December: The very next day after being shot, Shakur loses his case and is convicted of sexually abusing a woman he had invited to his hotel room.
He is acquitted of sodomy and weapons charges.
Shakur still maintains his innocense and can be heard speaking his side of the story on the "All Eyes on Me" album under the song "Holla at Me".
1995
Release of "Me Against The World," a multi-million-selling album.
February: Sentenced on his charges in New York to 4 1/2 years in prison.
It was while in prison that Shakur would find that the people he thought were his friends did not even care enough to visit him. One person who did take the opportunity to visit 2pac in jail was Marion "Suge" Knight, CEO of Death Row Records.
It was while in jail that 2pac and Knight arranged and wrote a contract for Shakur to release 3 albums on the Death Row label.
It was also during his time in jail that Tupac married his long time girlfriend.
They seperated not to long after Tupac was released. October: After nearly eight months in prison, Shakur is released on bail (paid by Suge Knight) while he appeals.
1996
Shakur's fourth solo album, "All Eyez on Me," debuts at No. 1 on Billboard's album chart, goes on to sell 5 million copies.
That number is estimated around 7 million now and continues to rise.
The single "How Do You Want It" / "California Love" off All Eyez On Me was a top 20 single on Billboard magazine's charts.
Tupac wraps up filming his role of a detective in Orion's urban crime thriller "Gang Related." which is to be released in the summer of 1997.
September 7: Shakur shot on the Las Vegas Strip as a passenger in Suge Knights Black BMW. Shakur was hit 4 times in the shooting including shots to the hand, leg, and stomach.
Knight caught a graze wound to the head but was not hospitalized.
September 13: After fighting complications and lapsing in and out of a coma Tupac Shakur is pronounced dead at 4:03 p.m. in Las Vegas. Fans who held vigil outside of the Hospital for nearly a week are left in shock.
After His Death
November 5: Makaveli - The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory is released and debuts at number 1 on Billboard's Charts.
November: All Eyez On Me Re-enters the Top 20 and Continues to sell, Numbers exceeding 6 million at this point. Rumors circulate of a possible "fake" of his death but soon fade out as details about the shooting are revealed.
1997
January: Bullet is released - a very disappointing movie for Shakur who only made up 5 minutes of the movie. Fans are disappointed and misled by the movies promoters.
February: Tupac stars in Gridlock'd. A very eerie and sad film shows us what we have lost as a society without Shakur.
It is easy for many to see that this could have been a breakthrough role for Tupac.
We are now left with little but unreleased songs and dusty clips from the archives of films he appeared in.
